La planta de la cola de caballo no tiene flores ni frutos, es primitiva y muy común, se recogen los tallos al final de la primavera o principio de verano y se secan al sol.
La cola de caballo es rica en sales minerales como el potasio y el silicio.

La cola de caballo es remineralizante, hemostática y anti anémica.
Se utiliza en casos de desmineralización, raquitismo, osteoporosis, ruptura de huesos, hemorragias, menstruaciones demasiado abundantes y hemorroides sanguinolentas.
Efecto muy bueno en casos de hemorragias que interesan al estómago, pulmón o útero.
Aplicada en heridas y llagas cicatriza y detiene las hemorragias.

Sana infecciones cutáneas.
La infusión se puede usar como loción anti edad y reforzar el pelo débil.
Se usa también la cola de caballo en casos de tuberculosis.
Estimula los órganos productores de glóbulos rojos y blancos, y sobre el intercambio celular.
Al ser muy diurética, encuentras aplicación en las afecciones de gota, reuma, edemas e hidropesía.
-Cocimiento: 30-50g de plantas secas cada medio litro de agua y hervir media hora. Dejar enfriar y filtrar. Tomar en tres veces. En casos de hemorragia usar la dosis máxima (50g)
-Cocimiento para uso externo: Doblar la cantidad de planta respecto al cocimiento anterior.
